March 2009 - LWNG Celebrates Two Years Together!

In February 2007, a handful of small business owners met to launch a new type of networking group. Since then, our group, LWNG, has been growing and learning together, in and for the Loudoun community. We have members who have started their own businesses from scratch, through direct sales companies, and franchises. The idea from the start was to form a networking group of women who could pool their resources to not only help each other, but also to support the community in which they do business. There are no hefty membership dues, and they are not required to meet any quotas for referring customers to other members. Sure, they perform the usual networking rituals, exchanging business cards and referrals, but the passion of this group is in doing great things together.

In the past two years, LWNG has collectively donated several thousand dollars in goods and cash to Loudoun churches, preschools, food pantries, and service organizations. This year, they are focused on benefitting four non-profit endeavors that touch the lives of women and children. Those are The Good Shepherd Alliance, The Ashburn Fire and Rescue, The Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) and Birthday Blessings. These ladies believe that it is important to give back - especially in these challenging economic times.

By working together to advertise LWNG and events as a group, and by approaching all of their various customers regarding charitable contributions, this team hopes to make a difference in peoples' lives. At Thanksgiving, several families were able to feast through the generosity of LWNG members. In the near future, the group will be setting collection boxes throughout Loudoun for donations that will help out their chosen charities this summer.

April 2008 - Mother's Day Vendor Fair

On April 18 from 11am - 2pm, LWNG members set up tables in the lobbies of three office buildings at President's Park on Sunrise Drive in Herndon. LWNG member Melanie Friedman manages these buildings and advertised this as a Mother's Day Fair. Patrons who visited all the vendors were entered in a drawing for various prizes.

February 2008 - Meeting at Entree Vous

On February 20th, LWNG held it's regular meeting at Entree Vous in old Ashburn. Preparing meals from fresh ingredients, while chatting with friends and conducting our business meeting, made for a fun and productive evening. The best part was taking the entrees home to bake and eat.

December 2007 - Vendor Fair at President's Park

Several of our LWNG members participated in the President's Park Holiday Vendor Fair in December. Employees in the buildings got quite a bit of their holiday shopping done during their lunch hour. Thanks to LWNG member Melanie Friedman for providing this opportunity.

October 2007 - Natural Body Spa

We enjoyed learning about the green construction and ongoing practices at Natural Body that promote a clean environment. But mostly, we enjoyed the complimentary massages we were treated to when we had our meeting there in 2007!

August 2007 - Broadlands Farmer's Market

Throughout the summer of 2007, LWNG members could be spotted alongside Farmer John's produce stands at Broadlands' Nature Center. While people lined up for the farmer's market, they could also shop for Mary Kay or Avon cosmetics, Pampered Chef and Tastefully Simple products to use with the fresh produce they purchased, and a number of other products offered by members of LWNG. A local girl scout troop was successful with their lemonade and cookie sales there too!

2007 Event Donations

In 2007, LWNG donated over $1,500 to local causes. We contributed to silent auctions at The Ashburn Fire and Rescue Open House, Celebration Preschool's Fall Fundraising Event, and Ashburn Presbyterian's Katrina Relief event. We provided door prizes at the Ashburn Senior Expo. As individuals, we did even more to support non-profit organizations in Loudoun County. Our charity subcommittee continues to work on ways for LWNG to make a difference in our community.
